Hub motors have been around for a long time, introduced, in fact, in 1902 by Ferdinand Porsche. These electric motors built into the hub of a wheel are common on the electric bicycle, and you'll notice in the specs of some of our items, such as the powerhouse XM-3500Li, a mention of these hub motors. Another version of the hub motor is termed "brushless." This means that energy is transferred from the outer to the inner rotating shaft of the motor electronically, requiring none of the usual brush-based contact, especially beneficial when used on electric bicycles. You may notice these brushless hub motors included on some of our E-bikes, such as the XB-500, XB-508, XB-600, and XM-3000.
